Your short videos should not live only on social media.

FlipReel is a free, open-source component that adds a carousel of vertical videos to your website. A tap opens the video in a full-screen player that readers can swipe through, on desktop and on mobile. Embed it on your homepage, on section pages or inside articles to give readers another way to discover your stories.
We're publishing FlipReel on GitHub because we want more publishers to use short-form video, including those who don't have the developers or the time to build such a component from scratch. Use it, modify it, adapt it to your needs and make it part of your publishing workflow.
Your videos, your production process
FlipReel works with any vertical 9:16 video, whatever software or team produced it. Videos made in Flipatic work too, but Flipatic is not required.
If you already produce vertical videos for social media, you can show the same files on your website and put them in front of your own readers.
A new advertising opportunity
FlipReel includes configurable ad slots between videos. By default, every fourth slide is an ad break. You decide how often it appears, how long it lasts and when readers can skip it.
The ad itself comes from your own ad stack. FlipReel ships with a ready adapter for Google Ad Manager, and your developers can connect another ad server through a small adapter interface. You get a new ad placement next to your existing inventory and a ready foundation for monetising video on your site.
Turn video views into article visits
Each video can link to its source article, and readers can click through while it plays. That makes FlipReel useful both for videos that tell the full story and for short teasers that make readers want to read the whole article.
Make it look like part of your website
You can adapt fonts, colours, corner radius and spacing to your brand, so the carousel feels like a natural part of your site rather than a third-party widget.
FlipReel works independently of your CMS and frontend framework, so it fits into the site you already have.
For your developers: stack and integration
- One script tag and one HTML element. Load FlipReel from npm or a CDN and place
where the carousel should appear. - Web components built with Lit and TypeScript. The component renders inside Shadow DOM, so your site's CSS and FlipReel's CSS don't interfere with each other.
- Works in plain HTML, WordPress and other CMS templates, React, Vue, Nuxt and Svelte. The repository includes demo pages for plain HTML, React, Vue, Nuxt and Svelte.
- Content comes from a simple JSON feed: an MP4 file (or an image), a short muted preview clip for the carousel, a title, a poster and an optional article link.
- Under 30 KB gzipped, Lit included. The carousel plays short previews instead of full videos, and a shared scheduler limits how many videos decode at the same time, so the page stays fast.
- No tracking and no storage by default. Every interaction (view, play, like, share, click to the article, ad impression) is a browser event you can send to GA4, Matomo or your own analytics.
- Interface in English and Polish out of the box.
- Apache 2.0 licence, packages on npm under
@flipatic.
Not supported yet: adaptive streaming (HLS/DASH) and server-side rendering. Both are on the roadmap.
Open source, and still evolving
We've been testing FlipReel with publishers, and their feedback has already shaped a backlog of improvements. We'll keep refining the component and releasing new features.
We'd love to hear what works, what could be better and what you'd like us to build next. Send feedback and feature requests to opensource@flipatic.com or start a discussion on GitHub.
